Music Analysis 1- In Sa

Hi all this is a korean pop song from one of the movies that i watched and the song is titled "In Sa". Chord progressions are varied but follow the general T-PD-D-T. This piece uses alot of (add2) to the chords for example D(add2) chord where note E is played in the D triad chord. This produces a whimsical effect to the piece. Thanks for reading. Goodbye. :)

Joel: Your RN analysis is largely correct (compare mine below with yours to spot your minor errors), it's great that you were not misled/confused by the added-note dissonances.

The progression is somewhat unusual, hence this is not a good example to illustrate the harmonic phrase model. The initial I-V6-vi7 descent suggests the initiation of a lament bass (review my self-directed learning package on the functional perspective of the lament bass if necessary). The ensuing vi7-IV-ii7 suggests a delay of the expected V. Then, surprisingly, the harmony moves to I6-IV, and the resultant ii7-I6-IV is a rather weak functional progression, arguably further expanding the predominant. Yet another surprise follows when a C chord (bVII) enters, leading to a G chord with a suspended 4th. In other words, as the earlier extensive predominant expansion, the dominant never appears. Hence, up to this point, there is no strong establishment of the home key D major.
